How to Schedule Tweets

Why should you schedule tweets? Doesn’t that take away form the interaction? Does it defeat the purpose of twitter? Some might argue, but personally, I think there are many good reasons to schedule a tweet. The catch is that you need to use twitter in real time too. Use scheduled tweets sparingly, but they can save you a lot of time.

Here are some examples of effective tweet scheduling:

  • Plan for a product launch and count down the days
  • Tease your followers by mentioning an upcoming blog post or podcast
  • Tweet a Birthday wish to your buddies and actually do it on their Birthday
  • Plan ahead for #WoofWednesday, #followFriday so you don’t forget anyone important
  • Send a reminder to yourself since you are always on twitter and ignore your calendar
  • Make time for dinner so you try something other than delivered pizza

Social Oomph allows you to schedule future tweets and supports multiple accounts. Write a tweet and schedule it for a single account, a few accounts or all of your accounts. Social Oomph also automatically shortens your URLs during the upload and schedule steps. Schedule for a specific date in the future (such as a Birthday for your friend) or schedule tweets to occur every few hours, days or weeks. With the professional version you can upload many tweets at one time. Write the tweets in a text file and upload them future tweeting. It does a whole lot more…try Social Oomph for Free!

Pluggio (formerly known asĀ TweetMiner) is great way to schedule tweets directly from your RSS feed. Load your RSS feed into TweetMiner, review the feed articles, and share the ones that are worthy of your tweets. Many of us get content from our feed reader and then share the content as we read it. Google Reader already supports this. However, if you read your RSS feeds in the morning and evening like I do, you tend to tweet a lot in short intervals. With TweetMiner you can plan to tweet throughout the day with all the interesting articles your RSS feed reader provides. TweetMiner does quite a bit more…try Pluggio for Free!

Twaitter lets you schedule future tweets and keep track of them on their Tweet Calendar. Twaitter works with your twitter login so you don’t need to sign-up for an account. This means that each twitter account is separate. If you want to post to more than one account it requires that you log out and log in with a different account. Not a big deal, but something to think about if you have multiple accounts. Twaiter includes a spellchecker, URL shortener and even a language translator. The website says there will be a future service to upload and schedule multiple tweets and even a connection to your RSS feeds…try Twaitter for Free!
